Welcome to Newport Quaker Meeting! We are a small, friendly group meeting every Sunday at 10:30.
Every Quaker Meeting for Worship begins in silence and offers a welcoming opportunity for spiritual exploration. We use it to open ourselves to the wisdom that comes out of stillness. It enriches us and shapes us, individually and collectively. This is what we mean by 'worship'. You can read more about how we worship here, but the only way to understand it fully is to go to a meeting.
Quakerism is almost 400 years old. It's the common name for the Religious Society of Friends. It grew out of Christianity and today we also find meaning and value in other faiths and traditions. We recognise that there's something transcendent and precious in every person. Different Quakers use different words to describe this, but we all believe we can be in contact with it and encounter something beyond our individual selves. The Quaker faith is expressed through lives and actions. We are most widely known for our work for peace.
Quaker faith is a search for truth, not an arrival. We do not share a fixed set of beliefs and you do not need to be a Quaker to worship with us at one of our meetings. We don't offer neat creeds or doctrine. Instead, we try to help each other work out how we should live. Quaker meetings are open to all, but we do not seek to convert anybody, it has never been a part of what we do. All people are welcome and accepted at a Quaker meeting. So why not request more information or come along and join us in worship at our meeting.
